Safeguard Coordinator SETCO

Duty Station: State of Khartoum
Reporting to: Program Coordinator
Duration: One year with possibility of extension based on Performance with three-month probationary period

The safeguard coordinator will be responsible to ensure the compliance of all project activities with the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), as well as relevant national laws in Sudan. More specific responsibilities include the following.

Specific duties and responsibilities
Coordinate various activities and specialist in the safeguard team – including environmental and social safeguards, occupational health and safety, gender-based violence and security management, and ensure their effective integration into project activities.
Arrange and facilitate the disclosure of ESMF (Environmental and Social Management Framework) and RPF (Resettlement Policy Framework) in the Sudan Electricity Holding Company (SEHC)’s website.
Conduct Training of Trainers for state and local focal points involved in the implementation of the proposed projects.
Visit the project sites as and when necessary and undertake field inspections and critical evaluations of actions needed.
Work closely/jointly with World Bank’s ESF experts.
Assist the Program Coordinator and Project Managers in the identification of safeguard issues and preparation as well as review of TORs, Papers, Studies, Reports, and undertake other assignments’ given by the coordinator and project managers

MSc degree in environmental science/engineering, sociology/social administration, or other related fields, with minimum 15 years of relevant experience.
Experience in the electricity sector is considered as a strong advantage.
Knowledge of Government of Sudan’s environmental and social guidelines is required
Understanding of the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework is required.
Experience in effective stakeholder engagement, grievance redress mechanism is desirable.

Fluency in Arabic and English language (Spoken and written).

The Safeguard Coordinator will report to the Program Coordinator.
Duration of the Assignment:
The assignment will be for one year with possibility of extension based on evaluation of performance
