Duty Station: State of Khartoum
Reporting to: Safeguard Coordinator
Duration: One year with possibility of extension based on Performance with three-month probationary period

The occupational health and safety specialist (OHS) will prepared and ensure the implementation of the OHS plans in accordance with the World Bank’s ESF.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Lead the preparation and documentation of relevant Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) assessments and plans, including Safety Management Plan, Emergency Preparedness and Response plans and other required OHS related documents.
Provide OHS recommendations on improved procedures for tracking, reporting, and coordination on control of safety risks for each project to ensure efficient and effective implementation of the project, and effective dialogue among sector stakeholders for the sustained technical support to the project PIU over time.
Provide day-to-day guidance and advice on health and safety compliance issues in planning documents, in consultation with the project PIU and Bank safeguard team.
Conduct site visits during project execution and operation to monitor the implementation of OHS mitigation measures.
Prepare OHS audit assessment checklist, undertake health and safety audit/ assessment in conformity with the country law and World Bank safeguard policies.
Develop corrective action plan form which includes root cause analysis and agreed corrective action plan for each audit findings and or non-conformities and communicate same with project PIU.
Undertake short OHS training/orientation, to project teams.
Prepare and risk-based safety bulletins as safety hazards prevention awareness measure.
Support project PIUs on identifying/ collecting/ analyzing safety data designated project manager/ contractor for capturing and analysis of safety data (near misses, incidents, accidents, injuries, sick leaves, medical cost, etc.), risk register and weekly/monthly safety performance reviews.

Recruitment Qualifications
MSc in a relevant area such as Occupational health and safety, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences, Development Studies.

At least 10 years of experience in implementing health and Safety and environmental safety monitoring and mitigation measures in infrastructure projects.
Understanding of World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework is required.
Proven capacity to work with multiple stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the private sector.
Strong written and oral language skills in English and Arabic.
Experience in the power sector is a plus.

The Occupational, Health and Safety Specialistis expected report to Safeguard Coordinator the Project Implementation Unit.

Duration of the Assignment: The assignment will be for one year with possibility of extension based on evaluation of performance
